The Lips: One of Your Most Sun-Sensitive Spots

Don’t you just love feeling the rays of the sun against your skin? Yeah, us too. It’s no secret that the summer months can be so fun and carefree, but it can also be absolutely brutal on our skin. As the heat intensifies, it is very common for us to notice cracks and peels on our skin. One of the first areas on your skin you will probably notice cracking and peeling are your shoulders but the places you don’t think about when applying the SPF are places like your eyelids, belly button or your lips.

Your lips are incredibly sensitive to the UV rays from the sun. Lips have a thin skin layer and hardly any melanin which is the pigment that protects us against the sun making them one of the most vulnerable parts of our body because they are always exposed to sunlight when a person is frequently out and about.

How can you prevent your lips from cracking?

Lip balm and sunscreen help to provide a physical barrier from the sun’s UV rays. Lip balm or sunscreen should be applied about 15 to 30 minutes before going outside and it should be applied as often as possible. In order to help you out, we would like to recommend our Eco Lips: Lip Food Nourish and our Eco Lips: Tint Coralyte Lip Balm, both of which can be found here.

While we know it can be tempting to go out without taking those extra few seconds to protect the most sensitive skin in your face, be sure to take the time. Using sunscreen and lip balm can truly work wonders at helping you looking young and healthy and will keep all your skin from discoloring and aging for years to come.
